I'm a text person myself. But discord was considered at one point but rejected for it going against the ideals our group is based on. In-game we can expect Millions on the same server. And looking at exponential growth patterns its safe to say the larger a group is the faster tip grows and if we stay at our position we can expect thousands or Hundreds of thousands in the Empire. Using a service like Discord or Teamspeak takes from the Immersion of the game. One example I like to use is this:
Option one: You're an Imperial soldier and you general who is normally a lot higher than you and never talks to anyone near your rank have requested a meeting with you. You PM him on discord and he drags you into his Discord/TeamSpeak room.
Option two. You're an Imperial soldier and you general who is normally a lot higher than you and never talks to anyone near your rank have requested a meeting with you. You stroll down to the ships hanger and walk up the ramp to a waiting shuttle. The shuttle leaves with tie fighter escorts adjacent to you. The shuttle approaches a massive Destroyer which you see outside the Viewport. The ship docks in the hanger and you exit to find an officer waiting for you at the bottom. You follow him and he turns around and stands by a door. He directs you in. You see a chair and a desk and you sit down in front of the General.
I would choose option two for multiple reasons. One it is really immersive and it also makes the management of possibly such a large force possible. I don't see the Empire working well on 3rd party communication. Unless a squad has there own.
But having a discord for the creation of the Empire or for the stage before the games release seems alright in my mind, it depends. What do you think? Should I make a poll for it?

Even after game release I would like to see a TS/Discord server for the Empire. Not for military communication, it would break the atmosphere of the game, but if you teamed up with a couple of other citizens and start building a city or if you discovered a new planet and want to share it with others or even just to talk while gathering resources a voice communication tool would be very nice.

Well, i guess smaller Organisations and small groups of people within the empire can. but having one for thousands of people would be difficult to manage. Also breaking the Atmosphere for something so large can break immersion. You might not know your admiral very well and only heard him shout at a technician in-game once but then you know your squad members like family because your squad made a discord. This can create that sense of immersion. It's like you have known your squad for longer. And that what you are doing is really for a government. Citizens as well can make any channels they want they are not stopped from using 3rd party communication but the idea of an Official Empire server for in-game communication seems off.

Personally, both options are good to my mind.
Yet we have to know each others and play together in games like Counter strike, Star citizen, War Thunder and so on, so that a the begin of the game, we don't play with strangers.
I have an organisation in star Citizen (And was before a member of the fourth french alliance in size), so I saw that the only thing that stuck orgs together before the release of the game is a teamspeak.

I think that it is necessary for the military to have a teamspeak, maybe just even divided by squads. Because typing is a rather slow form of communication. Even if you're just listening.

Voice chat by pressing a button would eliminate that and it would be our main use of communication in-game but squads can have whatever measure they want to communicate.
